What is a Master of Ceremonies?
A Master of Ceremonies is a talented individual who conducts and performs at events; such as Weddings, Staged Events &. Most of the time these events are larger events, which is why you need a Master of Ceremonies there, to ensure that everyone is listening and understand where to go/be.
The typical role of a Master of Ceremonies at a Wedding is usually quite simply, they are there to ensure that everyone is having a good time whilst at the same time, making sure that they all understand what the structure of the day will be and to help guide guests in the right direction. For Weddings, a Master of Ceremonies will appear after the ceremony has concluded and will usually spend their time working from the reception right through until the first dance or cake cutting.
The first duty of a Master of Ceremonies is to announce the newly weds into the room, at the reception venue, once the ceremony has finished. He will ensure that all guests are applauding and standing for their hosts, and he will announce, for the first time, the newly married couple with their new title.
Once the Wedding Breakfast has been served, the Master of Ceremonies will then announce the speeches and guide the guests and audience on when to clap. Between each speech (depending on how many there are), he will announce each speech giver by their name before they start speaking. This is a great way for the guests to understand who exactly is talking and how they are related to the Bride & Groom, it will also ensure that everyone is aware and listening at the correct moments.
Once the speeches have concluded, a Master of Ceremonies will then announce the cake cutting and/or the first dance. The reason for why they would announce these moments, is to make sure that the guests understand what is happening next and where these moments might happen. They will make sure they herd the guests in the general direction and might sometimes as a member of the Bridal Party to help them usher the guests through. Once their main duties have pretty much been completed, a Master of Ceremonies will then wait around for a little while longer to help guests with any additional requirements; such as booking a taxi or finding their way around the Wedding venue.
